Skyway Elementary is located in the shadows of Cheyenne Mountain, in the southwest part of Colorado Springs, Colorado.  Cheyenne Mountain is home to NORAD and the world-famous Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. The historic Broadmoor Hotel is also nearby.

The Skyway staff believes that CHARACTER is the foundation upon which everything else is built. We emphasize character trait words every month.  August is "caring," September is "respect," October is "responsibility," November is "kindness," December is "teamwork," January is "manners," February is "fairness," March is "helpful," April is "trustworthy," and May is "citizenship."  We recognize students for their efforts in practicing these character traits by catching them being good. Students who are caught practicing these desired traits may receive "Comet Blue Slips" for positive behaviors. We also recognize students through our Shining Star Program. Each month, two students from each class are recognized for their citizenship behaviors and attitudes.

Skyway Mission:
To provide a school community, and foster an environment, in which everyone is safe, happy, and challenged to learn and grow to the best of their potential; where foundations of academic, emotional, social, and physical preparation are laid to face tomorrow's challenges; where respect and integrity are fundamental.  Above all, Skyway embraces a leading educational experience where learning is a shared passion.

GR3 students will be featuring their artwork at Village at Skyline on Tuesday, February 21st from 5:00-6:00.  All community members are welcome to attend this annual art show that features Skyway's artists.  Art work will be displayed in "The Bridge" and any questions may be answered by Miss Lowe.

Join us this Thursday, February 16th for the kick-off to our annual marathon, beginning at 7:15 AM on the west playground.  Every year students, families, friends, stakeholders and alumni run or walk our campus accumulating miles for the grand finale and final mile Tuesday, May 23rd.  Every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 7:15 to 7:50 you are welcome to engage in some really healthy community building to jump start your day.  This year, each mile will be "sponsored" by a book and literacy will abound every week.  We hope to see you all there!

School will be closed in order to host Parent/Teacher Conferences for students either requiring an update on their progress or for those students whose parents request a conference.  Teachers will notify families required to attend or parents are welcome to contact the school with their request.

School will resume on Monday, February 27th at 8:00 AM.

GR1 and GR2 will be going to south Denver to attend the "Wildlife Experience".  GR1 will go Tuesday, February 21st from 8:15-2:50 and GR2 will go Wednesday, February 22nd from 8:15-2:50.  Classroom teachers are ready to answer questions regarding this trip.

CMSD12 will be closed Monday, February 20th in honor of President's Day.  School will resume Tuesday, February 21st.

Beginning Tuesday, February 21st, D12 resident parents of students who will be 5-years-old by October 1, 2017 may pick up a kindergarten registration packet at the D12 Administration Office or request to have one mailed (475-6100).  The annual Kindergarten Round-Up will take place on March 1st & 2nd at the district administration office.  Student will not be assigned to specific schools until Kindergarten Roundup has been completed.  Parents will be notified of school assigned via mail by March 24, 2017.  For additional information, refer to the Cheyenne Mountain School District website at www.cmsd12.org.

Make sure to check for a flier going home providing information about Cheyenne Mountain High School's Sports Sampling Camp.  Additional information may be found at

Financial assistance is available.  Call Skyway for information.

Skyway is looking for reliable volunteers to support our library.  If you have an hour or two to give each week, we could use your support to maintain book check-in, inventory and provide a little TLC to our most sacred space...our library.  Training takes approximately one hour and you can set your volunteer times!  Contact Pam Herr (475-6150) to schedule training and volunteer hours.  Thank you Skyway stakeholders!

Before and after school care has returned to Skyway!  If you are interested or need support with before and after school care, it is offered through YMCA from 6:30-8:00 AM and 3:00-6:00 PM every day that Skyway is in session.  Visit ppymca.org/before-after-school  for details or visit any YMCA location to register.  Shot records are required to enroll and financial aid is available.
